Which baby sleeping bag size is ideal for my baby?

Posted on2 Months ago 259

Deciding between a baby sleeping bag and a baby blanket with pillow can be a challenge for many parents. On the one hand, they are looking for maximum comfort for their baby, but on the other hand, safety is the top priority. Once the choice of sleeping bag has been made, it is important to determine the right size.

The sleeping bag should neither be too big nor restrict the baby. Choosing the right baby sleeping bag size is therefore crucial to avoid potential risks, such as the baby slipping into a sleeping bag that is too big and possibly covering its face.

The ideal baby sleeping bag size is primarily based on the child's body size. To ensure optimum freedom of movement and a perfect fit at the same time, it is advisable to make sure that the distance between the feet and the bottom of the sleeping bag is no less than 10 cm.

Table for determining the right baby sleeping bag size

The following guidelines will help you choose the right sleeping bag:

Size 44 for a body size under 50 cm (newborns)
Size 50/56 for a body size of 50 to 56 cm (0 to 2 months)
Size 56/62 for a body size of 56 to 62 cm (2 to 3 months)
Size 62/68 for a body height of 62 to 68 cm (3 to 6 months)
Size 68/74 for a body height of 68 to 75 cm (6 to 11 months)
Size 80/86 for a body height of 75 to 85 cm (12 to 20 months)
Size 104 for a height of 97 to 105 cm (3 to 4 years)
Size 110 for a height of 105 to 112 cm (4 to 5 years)

For a more precise determination, however, it is advisable to use the following formula: Body length - head length + 10 cm = correct sleeping bag size

Tips for choosing the ideal baby sleeping bag size

It is important to remember that your baby should grow out of the sleeping bag and not into it. A rule of thumb says: If the difference to the next baby sleeping bag size is a maximum of 2 cm, choose the larger size; if the difference is greater, choose the smaller size.

In addition to the right length, the neck and armholes are also crucial. They should not be too wide to prevent the baby from slipping in. As a rule of thumb, the distance between the baby's neck and the neckline should be about the width of a finger.

To save costs, you can choose a sleeping bag that grows with your baby and can be adjusted using press studs. This avoids having to buy several sleeping bags in different sizes.

With these tips, choosing the right baby sleeping bag size is easy.
